Systemic theory application paper: SFT
You will be given a clinical scenario to demonstrate how you would adopt a systems
approach to work with the person, family, and/or couple as if you are the consulting
therapist. You will discuss tasks related to incorporating systems approaches into
practice. In each paper, you should address the following topics as applied to the scenario. (You are welcome to expand the case vignette as a way to
elaborate on your application – use your imagination).
1 Identify the therapy model you will be using, including a descriiption of its
theoretical approach, key authors, and general premises.
2 Describe who is the client (or system) you will work with and how choosing this
identified system is consistent with the approach you discuss. When identifying
the problem, situation, and/or circumstance, please keep the model you have
selected in mind. For example, how does that orientation conceptualize clinical
problems?
3 Describe the therapy process and interaction, including the problem formation
and problem maintenance according to the theory.
4 Describe the therapy process (or treatment) according to what needs to happen
for the problems or circumstances to be addressed. According to the therapeutic
perspective clearly establish the goals of therapy (SFT or MRI); otherwise, state
what the person wants or hopes to get from therapy (NT or Collaborative) and
what will be done to create change.
5 Describe the techniques (MRI or SFT) or lines of inquiry (NT) that might be used
and how would they be used or offered. Include relevant interventions, types of
questions, homework, etc. Also, include examples, fabricating a particular
scenario in the therapeutic conversation – again, use your imagination.
6 Describe the cultural, racial/ethnic, lifestyle, gender, religiosity, social class, etc.
that may be pertinent to address in therapy.
7 Make sure that you support your descriiptions of the model and its interventions
with the appropriate references. This paper requires at least 5 literature
resources (book chapters, peer-reviewed articles, etc.).
8 Please assure that your descriiptions of the services you will be providing are
consistent with AAMFT’s ethical guidelines and legal practices.
9 The paper should be 5 to 10 pages long, double-spaced, Times New Roman font
12. It must be written using APA style format. A title page or an abstract are not
to be counted toward the 7 to 10 pages of text. Be mindful of in-text citations and
reference page guidelines. Often, points are lost due to the format/grammar/etc.

Case Scenario: 6) Bob is a 35-year-old gay male, whom his doctor referred to seek therapy for his health issues and weight concerns. Although Bob recognizes that his exercise and eating patterns are hindering his health, he wants to address other factors in his life. He indicated that he has a turbulent relationship with his family, specifically with his sister. He stated that she falsely accused him of physical aggression and reported this information to law enforcement. Bob works at Publix as a cashier. However, he does not drive and has to depend on his father for transportation. Bob is also in a relationship. However, he has not physically seen his partner in over a year. He mentioned that he doesn’t feel “sexy.”
