Question 1: Read the following transcript on: NZ Program Strives to Give Peace to Sexual Assault Survivors (November 26, 2013) from RN Law Report (https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/lawreport/n…). Discuss the following question: do you think that restorative justice should be available for sexual assault victims? Why or why not? (200-250 words)
Question 2: You have always been really good friends with Mr. Norris, a nice older gentleman who lives a few doors away from you. You have been friends with him for the last 10 years talking outside the house, occasionally sharing a meal together, and sometimes even going to the movies or to play Bingo. As he gets older, his health is beginning to deteriorate and he asks you if you wouldn’t mind shopping for him occasionally or taking him to the doctor as it is becoming more and more difficult for him to get around on his own. He has a walker that he is now dependent on for his mobility and feels more comfortable if someone is close in case he needs the extra help. You agree to do so graciously and also increase your calls and visits to his home just to keep track of him and to see how he is doing on a daily basis. One day his daughter opens the door and says that her father has taken a turn for the worse, but gives no explanation as she turns you away. You call, but no one ever picks up the phone. For the next several days, you go to the house, but there is no answer. As the weeks progress, you see Mr. Norris’ daughter and ask how he is doing and she says that he has stabilized, but he is getting more and more forgetful each day, she whispers, “it is the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.” After persistently asking if you can visit him over several weeks, she finally reluctantly agrees. While visiting, she is very cautious about the communication and barely lets you and Mr. Norris alone to talk. The phone rings and when she goes to answer it, you ask Mr. Norris how he is really doing. He shakes his head and looking around obviously scared says quickly, “I am not doing well. She took away my phone and rarely feeds me. I am dehydrated and feel faint. I am locked in my room and can’t visit with anyone, I don’t even have a television or radio. My walker is kept too far from my bed and I often can’t reach it. I’ve fallen a few times trying to reach it to get to the bathroom. I just don’t know what to do.Please help me.”
The neighbor calls Adult Protective Services and you are sent out to the home. Answer the following questions in order to help Mr. Norris:
Assess the situation. What are some questions that you will need to ask Mr. Norris and his daughter to determine abuse?
What are some physical and behavioral indicators that you will look for to determine abuse?
Once you determine if there has been elder abuse, what will you need to do?
After talking with Mr. Norris, he indicates that he does not want to leave his home. Determine a plan and resources to assist Mr. Norris to honor his wishes.
Is Mr. Norris eligible for victim compensation, why or why not?
Minimum requirements: The case scenario must be double-spaced and at least 4 page in length (one inch margins on all sides), use APA style.
