Please write a 2-page essay discussing a literary character of your choice. This should be a fictional character from one of your favorite books, movies, or TV shows. You may choose any character you like, but you should select a character whose fictional personal background is relatively well-known. You might not know every single detail about his/her background, but you need to know enough details to discuss their childhood from a personality perspective in this paper. This essay is worth 100 points.
Please format your paper in the following template, answering the following questions, and using the following sub-headings:
Introduction (2 paragraphs): Please discuss your chosen character’s name, age, gender, occupation, general personality traits and characteristics that stand out to you, and any other details that seem relevant.
Background Information (2-3 paragraphs): Discuss your chosen character’s personal background. Please discuss your chosen character’s family background — who was in their family, what was their family like, what was the general tone of the family environment? What significant events happened in your chosen character’s life that shaped his/her life (either positively or negatively)?
Psychoanalytic and Neo-Psychoanalytic Personality Theories (minimum 1.5 pages): this section should be the longest section of the paper, describing two personality theories and then applying them to your chosen character. You may select any two of the theories (psychoanalytic and/or neo-psychoanalytic) we have covered in class so far (Freud, Jung, Adler, or Horney). First, you should provide an overview of a selected theory. Describe its basic tenats and how it explains personality development. Then use your chosen character as an example, and apply the theory to your character. For example, you might provide quite a lot of information and ideas about how Freud would use the psychosexual stages of development to explain how/why Bob Wiley (What About Bob?) developed a dependent personality. Then describe and apply a second theory.
Conclusion (brief 1 paragraph): Summarize and wrap up your essay.
Your essay should be 3 pages of text, plus a title page and reference page (no abstract required). Your paper should be in proper APA format (if you are unsure of APA formatting, please reference the materials provided in the Week 0 learning activity). Your essay should include at least 3 citations from the Schultz & Schultz (2017) text, which should be listed in proper APA format. You are welcome to use additional published journal articles if you choose. Websites are not considered valid references in academic work.
